Karnataka Elections: Badami Amavasya keenly watched

BAGALKOT: As in keeping with the Hindu calendar, nowadays is Badami Amavasya and according to well-liked belief, believers in North Karnataka area don’t get started any new work in this no moon day.

But for voters in Badami, the place leader minister Siddaramaiah (Congress) is up against MP B Sreeramulu (BJP), this amavasya, named after Badami, is an important day. While each events’ workers are dreaming of their chief’s win, commoners are satisfied as they will get either a current CM or possible deputy CM as their MLA.

“There is not any connection between Badami the town and Badami Amavasya. This Amavasya has the similar title all over the place the arena. It was named as Badami in historical days when Badami the town was called as Vatapi or Vatapipura,” said Subhas Koti, an astrologer from Gajendragad.

Laxman Maraditota, who had filed his nomination as an impartial supported by way of Janandolana Mahamaitri, said Siddaramaiah and Sreeramulu have equal influence within the area. “The victory margin will be very skinny,” he said.

A paan store owner, who didn’t want to be named, in Cholachagudda village said other people attended rallies of each Congress and BJP. “But they by no means spoke overtly about who they voted for,” he added.

The Lingayats, around 60,000, are the highest in quantity. Though Shivayoga Mandir, start position of Akhil Bharat Veerashaiva Mahasabha, is in Badami taluk, it has few supporters for Veerashaiva. Usually Panchamasali and Banajiga fortify the phrase Lingayat. If it works in favour of the Congress, Siddaramaiah could win. If Lingayats fortify the BJP, like in earlier years, then Sreeramulu has an opportunity.


Rampant betting


Betting at the Badami result is rampant in Bagalkot district. At stake are sheep, goats, cows and other home animals in rural areas and sites, automobiles and money in urban areas.
