MANGALURU: A budding film director Santosh Shetty Kateel met a watery grave at Ermayi Falls in Ujire, Belthangady taluk on Wednesday.
Santosh, who was dressed in a special designed gown, died after he by chance slipped into falls while he and his team had long past there for a photoshoot. He had won laurels for his youngsters movie-- 'Kanasu - Kannu Teredaga'.
According to police, he along side 4 others had deliberate for a photo-shoot for his upcoming youngsters Kannada film: Gandhada Kudi, Chandan Van, which had finished 90 % of taking pictures. As according to plans, the gang reached Ujire on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, they left for shoot at Ermayi falls, which was swollen because of incessant rains. They reached the spot around 8.30am.
According to resources, an area Surendra reportedly warned the film team to not to get into water because it was flowing heavily with drive but they unnoticed his caution. Later, the crew began work on their photo-shoot the place Shetty was supposed to wear a special gown fabricated from steel to look like robot. The photo-shoot plot was such that it was taken he (Shetty) standing on flowing water at falls. During which, it is alleged that he slipped along with his heavy gown, washed away and drowned. The incident took between 10.15am and 10.30am. His frame was spotted by way of Surendra himself around 12.30am and was fished out.
Shetty had bought his animation stage and worked in local TV channels as animator sooner than getting into film-making.
Police said that they have booked case under Indian Penal Code 304(a) (Whoever reasons the dying of somebody by way of doing any rash or negligent act no longer amounting to culpable murder…) in opposition to 4 individuals who accompanied him to the falls without acquiring necessary permission. Case is registered at Belthangady police station and investigation is on.
