Members of teachers’ union condemn preventive arrests, stage protest

Coimbatore: Members of Joint Action Committee of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisations - Government Employees’ Organisations (Jactto-Geo) on Tuesday staged a protest on the collectorate condemning the preventive arrest of its participants. District organiser of Jactto-Geo V Senthil Kumaran said about 50 participants of the body participated within the protest.

Some participants had been detained on Monday as preventive measure to prevent them from staging protests. They had been released on Tuesday, said Kumaran. “They arrested me in my administrative center and detained me. To condemn this, we collected on the collectorate to protest,” he said.


The participants had been hard that the brand new pension scheme be scrapped and the old scheme be implemented again. They had additionally demanded that college and university teachers be given wage in keeping with the seventh pay commission. They said 21 months’ wage was once now not given to these government employees for whom the seventh pay commission had been implemented.


The protesters said that if their calls for had been no met, they'd march to the state secretariat in Chennai.


Members of the union, who had attempted to march to the secretariat, had been arrested on Tuesday.
