‘Mentally-challenged’ woman impregnated, no FIR filed

Tirupur: A 31-year-old girl, who is thought to be having finding out difficulties, has been impregnated allegedly by her neighbour near Madathukulam here.
However, native police have not filed an FIR as they're expecting medical opinion on her psychological well being. Police sources stated they're carrying out an inquiry with three suspects.

The girl was staying along with her mother, an agricultural labourer, in a village near Madathukulam taluk. “She used to rear a herd of goats after her mother leaves for work. She also used to consult with the neighbouring homes to look at television,” a police officer stated.

When the lady fell unwell three months in the past, her mother took her to a neighborhood health center. To the mother’s surprise, medical doctors there declared the lady pregnant. When the mother asked the medical doctors to abort the newborn, they refused as a result of lack of haemoglobin content.

Fearing that the pregnancy will convey bad name to the circle of relatives, the duo soon shifted to Dharapuram. The pregnant girl was treated on the Dharapuram Government Hospital as an out-patient for the pregnancy, which has attained seven months.

Recently, the mother lodged a grievance with Kaniyur police to do so in opposition to the man, who impregnated her. “Preliminary investigations found that the lady has bodily incapability. She could not walk incessantly and even communicate freely. But, we could not come to a conclusion on her psychological ability. She seemed in a position to know her routine works,” the officer stated.

“We can ascertain the offence and check in FIR only after medical doctors give opinion on her psychological well being. We have recognized three people as suspects, including her neighbour,” he added.
