Minister instructs officials to hasten development work

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Development Department (GDD) minister Siddhartha Bhattacharyya on Thursday building work in the town will have to development rapid.

Bhattacharyya, who had a meeting with officers of GMDA and Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), requested them to take instant steps to free up water from low-lying areas. GMDA engineers briefed him concerning the development of all ongoing initiatives like water supply, ropeway and development of a bridge over the Brahmaputra.


"Instead of manual labourers, more emphasis should be given on using machines to complete desiltation of drains. I will not tolerate negligence in work. The work should have been done faster," Bhattacharyya told the officers. He prompt them to clear Drain No. 2 at Lakhtokia (Fancy Bazar) and instructed a plan for buying equipment and other apparatus for desilting drains.


The Jal Board has been requested to complete the continued water supply initiatives straight away. The minister has additionally requested officers to consult him prior to finalizing the proposed park at Old Jail land in Fancy Bazar. Bhattacharyya requested GMDA officers to be careful prior to issuing lets in for development of constructions. "The process of issuing planning permit should be made transparent and corruption-free. Unauthorized construction shall be viewed seriously and the guilty officials will be brought to book," he said.
