Coimbatore: The parking contractor on the town railway station has been penalised for overcharging and permitting passengers to use the facility for greater than 24 hours. As according to the norms, cars and other cars will also be parked on the lot for a maximum of 12 hours. But the contractor have been permitting folks to park cars for extra hours to pocket more money.
On Friday, Urmila Chordia, who used to be returning after a two-day trip, used to be shocked when the contractor asked her to pay an additional Rs 120. “We had parked our automotive on May 22 at 9pm. We weren't aware that we cannot park for greater than 12 hours. The contractor asked us to pay Rs 360 and because we have been in a hurry to catch the train, we paid it. If he had mentioned it is not authorised, we might have parked outside at some personal parking zone,” she mentioned. But regardless of that, he persisted to hunt extra money, she told TOI.
“He used abusive language and didn't allow us to head. That used to be once we determined to report a grievance against him,” Urmila mentioned.
As according to rules, for four wheelers similar to cars, Rs 25 is charged for four hours. Above four hours upto 12 hours, Rs 60 is charged. For heavy cars, Rs 120 is charged for four hours and upto 12 hours, Rs 240 is charged. The facility cannot be used for greater than 12 hours.
Deputy business supervisor Pankaj Kumar, who reached the spot instantly, mentioned that it used to be against the norms. “There isn't any provision for one of these fee. Parking lot contractors steadily take advantage of passengers and make extra money. We will take motion against the contractor and also make sure that such incidents aren't repeated,” he mentioned.
The contractor, known as Ranjith, used to be additionally summoned by railway government. “We will arrange notice forums near the doorway and at several locations to ensure that the passengers are conscious about the principles.
