This gang of five hit and ran 10 ft underground with loot

NEW DELHI: To say that this gang went “underground” after each and every heist could be to metaphorically explain its disappearance from public view. But cops found out that this particular group of 5 males if truth be told went under the bottom after carrying out thefts in upscale west and central Delhi colonies. On Tuesday, police nabbed the quartet hiding in a refuge they'd dug below a footpath at the Pusa Road-Shankar Road crossing. The unique hideaway now not best had a bedroom and bathroom, but also cupboard space carved out to stow their booty.

The excavated lair, with a gap large enough to allow one person to enter at a time, was raided by means of a police staff that was probing circumstances of thefts in central Delhi. Mandeep Singh Randhawa, DCP (Central), disclosed on Wednesday, “A patrol staff noticed some of the gang contributors named Suraj (22) fleeing with two iPhones he had stolen from a businessman in West Patel Nagar and followed him to his getaway autorickshaw. Suraj was nabbed and on being interrogated, led the cops to the hideout.”

Randhawa had formed a special staff led by means of Rohit Rajbir Singh, ACP (Patel Nagar), to track the thieves who looked as if it would disappear when cops started a seek for them. On Tuesday, when the investigators reached the underground room, gang contributors Ajay Patwa and Rajender attempted to scramble out and run to steer clear of arrest, but they have been caught. Aslam (23) and Jai Prakash (24) have been also arrested and the quartet was found out to have a history of involvement in 10 burglaries.

The hideout, which was round 20 metres under the bottom, had two compartments: one had a bed and the opposite was used as a bathroom. The quartet confessed to having used where for nearly six months. The entrance hole was ceaselessly left open to let in gentle.

The males claimed to have originally dug below the street to create a winter refuge. They admitted that they have been so positive the cops would now not find their hiding position that they'd even discarded the cement cover of the doorway. On Tuesday, however, they'd planned to use a brand new cover and leave where for some time, but have been thwarted by means of their pursuers.

Jai Prakash was taken into custody from his area in Sultanpuri. He used to organize the getaway cars for his friends and most often waited for them to appear with the stolen items. Himself an auto driving force, Prakash steadily borrowed autorickshaws from his pals and used them all the way through the thefts to steer clear of detection by means of police. He instructed the investigators that he joined the group lured by means of the prospect of incomes more cash.

Most of the time, Suraj, Patwa and Rajender stayed under flooring to guard the booty, whilst the two others contacted fences to eliminate the stolen items. The cash was disbursed amongst themselves, most often at Prakash’s house. The males most often carried small arms with them to threaten anyone who resisted their theft bids. Police recovered laptops, mobile phones, watches and money from their possession.
