Following TOI’s campaign against wrong-side driving within the town, Aditya Dev speaks to Ghaziabad SSP Vaibhav Krishna on rampant visitors violations in Ghaziabad.
Q- What is the principle cause of wrong-side driving in Ghaziabad?
A. Lack of police team of workers, and infrastructure. I’ve greater the number of team of workers within the visitors wing. Changes will probably be visible within the coming days. Our assets are meagre at the moment, but we’re seeking to give a boost to them. It’s now not that law enforcement officials are incapable. In the absence of law enforcement officials, commuters take merit and power at the incorrect aspect, despite understanding it’s unhealthy.
Q- Commuters continuously flout rules where visitors law enforcement officials aren't present. Any plans to deploy extra team of workers?
A. To give a boost to the town’s visitors scenario, the dept has deployed 100 constables, 36 head constables and 15 sub-inspectors within the visitors wing for the next three months. They are progressively becoming a member of the visitors wing after undergoing coaching. The further force will arrange town visitors for longer hours. There are a number of visitors problems which we are hoping to unravel with this.
Q- How do you sensitise those police team of workers who ignore wrong-side driving despite the fact that they see it?
A. It’s now not that law enforcement officials intentionally ignore wrong-side driving. Their first precedence is to make sure visitors strikes easily and create fewer hassles for commuters. If they move from their positions at busy intersections to issue challans, it is going to lead to primary visitors snarls.
Q- Any plans for signage to direct drivers who take to wrong-side driving because of lack of know-how?
A. There is a necessity for extra signage. Even those which are already present are coated beneath unlawful hoardings and posters. We’re running in this. There is also a wish to set up extra visitors alerts.
Q- Cities like Pune post tyre killers to stop wrong-side driving. Any such plans for Ghaziabad?
A. We’re to open to new ideas to curtail visitors violations. At present, we’re that specialize in improving basic infrastructure and development.
Q- Wrong-side driving is also a mindset issue. Can visitors police create consciousness to curb this?
A. We’re wearing out many drives and operations focussed on many problems, together with wrong-side driving. Last month, we performed Operation Clean Traffic to clear primary crossings from encroachment through distributors. Likewise, Operation Chakravyuh was once executed to stop plying of unauthorised auto-rickshaws.
Q-Long detours additionally inspire people to power at the incorrect aspect...
A. Cuts and openings can’t be allowed at every nook and cranny. Sometimes, the detour is a need. People will have to all the time follow visitors rules.
Q- Are police consulted before a U-turn/detour is created? Any plan to revisit road design in areas where wrong-side driving is rampant?
A. The visitors wing works in coordination with administrative bodies. We’re consulted, and we give our tips.
