1 dead, 20 injured in New Jersey arts festival shooting

TRENTON: Shooting broke out at an all-night artwork competition in Trenton, New Jersey, early Sunday, sending other folks stampeding from the scene and leaving one suspect useless and 20 other folks injured, authorities mentioned.

Many of the 20 injured were handled for gunshot wounds, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri mentioned Sunday morning. Four of the ones, including a 13-year-old boy, were in vital situation.

He mentioned that two suspects opened fireplace round 2:45am all over the Art All Night competition that showcases local artwork, track, meals and flicks. One of the suspects, a 33-year-old man, was killed. Another suspect is in custody.

On Sunday, there was crime scene tape surrounding the web page of the previous warehouse construction that now shares a car park with a grocery store, bank and laundry facility.

Authorities say that about 1,000 other folks were in the house when the capturing began.

Ernie Rivas has owned a shop close to the web page of the capturing for 17 years and mentioned he came again from the seashore Sunday morning when he heard what happened.

"I've never seen this happen. It's bad, I feel bad, especially on Father's Day," Rivas mentioned.

Theresa Brown mentioned she's been volunteering at Art All Night for 12 years and hasn't ever seen or heard of violence like this. She mentioned she was leaving from her volunteer shift round 2am and heard "pop, pop, pop."

"I thought it was a car backfiring," she mentioned.

She returned to the scene round 7am and saw the police.


Art All Night Trenton began Saturday afternoon and was scheduled to conclude Sunday afternoon. The rest of the competition has been cancelled.


"We're very shocked. We're deeply saddened. Our hearts ache and our eyes are blurry but our dedication and resolve to building a better Trenton through community, creativity and inspiration will never fade. Not tonight. Not ever," competition organizers posted on social media Sunday.


A spokeswoman for St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton mentioned 10 victims were being handled there for minor accidents. She mentioned they were both men and women, ranging in age from 17 to 48. They were in various levels of being launched, she mentioned.


One man with a gunshot wound was transferred to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. More victims were at Capital Health Systems in Trenton.
