1st coaches of Metro can’t have ‘women-only’ board

BENGALURU: The first coach within the new six-coach Metro educate could also be reserved for girls passengers, but BMRCL says it can not set up a signboard to that impact on the coach. Reason: the educate does now not take a U-turn at the terminal and, as a substitute, runs within the opposite whilst starting from the other end.
Now that the women-only coach is up and working, a number of females commuters are challenging a nameboard on the first coach. They say one of these board will not only assist females passengers travel without concern, but will even make it transparent for males that it’s a no-go zone for them.

However, BMRCL officers say this isn't imaginable. “We can not put out any board or plate on the first coach of Metro trains. It isn't like an peculiar educate where the engine can be detached and placed in entrance during each onward adventure,” mentioned a Metro respectable.

BMRCL says commuters will gradually get used to the fact that the first coach is only for females. It could also be making announcements on trains, mentioning that the first coach, simply behind the loco pilot’s compartment, is completely for girls travellers.

“It’s unattainable to board those trains during height hours. A women-only compartment makes us really feel secure and relaxed. But many male passengers too are getting into the compartment, ” mentioned S Revathy who commutes between Mysuru Road and Byappanahalli daily.

“I didn’t know this coach was only for females passengers. There are no show boards specifying the same. I thought only the first two doorways are reserved for girls,” mentioned a male commuter who boarded the educate from Hosahalli Metro station. Each Metro coach has four doorways. In February, BMRCL introduced that first two entrances of all trains can be accessed only via females.

When contacted, BMRCL managing director Mahendra Jain mentioned he’d look into the problem and get to the bottom of it. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation imposes penalty for illegal entry into the compartment reserved for girls.

A S Shankar, govt director of operations and upkeep, BMRCL, mentioned there has been some confusion because the six-car educate is new to passengers. “We are considering putting a band separating the ladies compartment from the remaining. We will deploy additional group of workers at platforms where the first coach arrives to ensure discipline and, if required, also deploy females group of workers inside the women compartment,” he provides.

No loud music please

BMRCL has advised passengers to not play loud music on trains and use headsets as a substitute. It’s also been making announcements on trains about the same, following lawsuits from passengers about some commuters causing nuisance via enjoying loud music on their cell phones.
