2 African citizens held in Delhi for duping Odisha woman

BHUBANESWAR: The cyber mobile of Odisha crime branch on Sunday arrested two African nationals from Delhi on charges of duping a lady in Bhubaneswar of Rs 10.49 lakh at the pretext of sending her costly items from America.
The woman, who refused to be identified, works as a clerk at Jharpada particular prison.

The accused had been identified as Zouzou Alex (34), from Dalola Gbibele city of Ivory Coast and Austine Erikume (46) from Delta state of Nigeria. The accused persons, who had been staying in Tilak Nagar space of Delhi for previous few years, had been introduced on transit remand to the state after being produced in a Delhi courtroom.

Sources said they created a faux profile in the name of Bhupinder Singh, a USA-based doctor, on a matrimonial web page. The 39-year-old unmarried complainant said she came in contact with the so-called Singh a couple of months in the past.


In her complaint the woman alleged that Singh wanted to marry her. After chatting with her for nearly 3 months, the accused requested her to ship him cash so that he may just ship items from the USA. Without verifying details of the person, whom she never met bodily nor talked over phone, the unsuspecting woman deposited Rs 10.49 lakh in January this year in several bank accounts, given by way of the accused to her. The accused deleted his profile from the matrimonial web page in February, making her understand that she has been cheated.


“We registered the case on February 13 this year. We were given clue concerning the accused while monitoring her banking transactions and chat historical past. The accused persons had been booked in similar on-line fraud case at Nagpada police station in Mumbai just lately. Another case was once registered towards Erikume at Kirtinagar police station in 2012,” cyber mobile’s inspector and investigating officer of the case Anila Anand told TOI.
