5 die in auto-car smash, kin attack min’s convoy

HYDERABAD: Five persons, including 4 girl farmers, died, while six suffered accidents when an auto through which they have been travelling was once hit by means of a rushing automobile at Manchal at the outskirts of the city on Monday morning. Police suspect the auto motive force could have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

This comes a day after 15 other folks, including 14 girl

farm workers and a four-year-old boy have been killed after the tractor-trolley they have been travelling in fell into a canal at Nandanam village in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district.

After Monday’s accident, members of the family of the sufferers attacked minister P Mahender Reddy’s convoy with stones tough speedy arrest of the accused. Police resorted to delicate lathicharge to disperse the protesters.

The deceased have been Mamata, 35, Sujata, 36, Maru, 50, Haslee, 55, 4 girls farmers from Chennareddygudem close to Manchal, and V Srinivas, 20, an auto motive force, from the same village.

Ten girls farmers have been travelling in Srinivas’ auto, with greens from Chennareddygudem to Ibrahimpatnam market on Monday. At Lingampally gate close to Nomula village, a rushing Hyundai Accent coming from the opposite direction rammed into the auto at round 5.45am.

Mamata, Sujata, Maru and Haslee died at the spot. Srinivas was once declared introduced useless at a local medical institution. The six other girls suffered accidents. They have been admitted to a nearby medical institution.


Four persons, Praveen Reddy, son of native TRS chief B Pulla Reddy, and his buddies Koteswara Rao, Sai and Raghava have been travelling in the Accent. They have been returning house, from a function at VMR hall in Turkayamjal on Sunday night time, round 5.15am. After colliding with the auto, the auto crashed into a tree, Manchal inspector M R Gangaram said. All 4 in the automobile survived.


Police found a whiskey bottle in the automobile. “We are but to identify who was once at the wheel. We have accumulated blood samples of all occupants of the auto to find out if they have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident,” Rachakonda DCP N Prakash Reddy said.


Transport minister P Mahender Reddy visited the spot and announced ex gratia to members of the family of sufferers. Locals who known Praveen because the son of Pulla Reddy staged a protest, tough the speedy arrest of the accused. The mob hurled stones at the minister’s convoy. Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob.


Reddy left after assuring the sufferers’ families that the accused can be arrested. A case was once registered against the accused under Sections 304-A and 337 of the IPC.
