BENGALURU: You can soon bid for a fancy registration number for your new vehicle to your smartphone or laptop: The delivery division will launch e-auction facility for registration numbers by the top of this year.
With this, vehicle homeowners don't need to consult with RTOs to take part in auctions for fancy numbers, they can bid online. Transport officers said they're planning to launch Vahan 4.zero, the upgraded online service for registration of recent vehicles, and extra transactions pertaining to it, in the next few months. Vahan 4.zero will enable the dep. to launch e-auction of fancy registration numbers.

Joint delivery commissioner (atmosphere and e-governance) M P Omkareshwari said Vahan 4.zero shall be launched in Bengaluru Rural and Shivamogga divisions by the top of this month. The final divisions like Mysuru, Belagavi, Kalaburagi and Bengaluru Urban will get Vahan 4.zero in a phased means.

Records show the delivery division has amassed Rs 32.89 crore for allotment of fancy registration numbers all over 2016-17, in comparison to Rs 18.76 crore in 2015-16.

“Vehicle homeowners don’t wish to make the rounds of delivery division offices once the web bidding of fancy registration is carried out. This will also make certain transparency and save you touts who use it as an avenue to sell those fancy numbers at a top rate,” said every other delivery division legitimate.

HOW THE AUCTION WORKS

Under this system, registration numbers from 0001 to 9999 in any sequence are open to public sale. The price for working sequence is Rs 20,000 and advance sequence is Rs 75,000. While registration numbers inside 1000 within the working sequence are allocated by the respective RTOs, numbers after 1000 within the working sequence in addition to the improvement sequence are issued by the delivery commissioner.

The amount excludes the Rs 75,000 deposit which isn't refundable for individuals who get the bids. Officials said a complete of Rs 40lakh was amassed from the public sale from 27 a hit bidders.
