BJD MP declines PAC sub-committee post, says panel not needed

NEW DELHI: BJD chief Bhartruhari Mahtab declined to be the convener of a PAC sub-committee formed to inspect extra appropriations, pronouncing the panel is not needed keeping in mind the light load concerned and lack of priority.


“The work load underneath this nomenclature is not a lot. Witnesses are seldom known as to depose... Either you might be ignorant or anyone has misled you pertaining to the formation of this sub-committee,” Mahtab wrote to PAC chairperson Mallikarjun Kharge.


Mahtab had headed a sub-committee that raised the problem of incomplete Bofors audits and led to the Centre in search of to appeal closure of the case in Supreme Court.


Mahtab said he used to be stunned the sub-committee used to be formed as it's at variance with same old goal of such panels — to expedite the primary PAC committee’s work.
