AHMEDABAD: In a first, the Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) directed the social welfare department to act against nine erring schools under the Juvenile Justice Act, for handing leaving certificates to scholars, allegedly over the activism of their parents over the associated fee law factor.
Accordingly, police court cases will be filed against nine schools in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot, who had given scholars LCs and forced them out of the college.
Jagruti Pandya, chairperson of the commission, informed TOI: “We had gained several court cases about children being given leaving certificates for his or her parents’ behaviour. After hearing the cases, we steered the social welfare department and the schooling department to do so against the erring schools under the Juvenile Justice Act. Section 75 of the act has a provision for imprisonment and fines of up to Rs 3 lakhs.”
The All Gujarat Vali Mandal had shot off a letter to the commission, alleging that self-financed schools had been threatening them and issuing LCs to the wards of many oldsters. The parents’ association also alleged that once they filed court cases against the colleges, the DEO administrative center didn't taken any action. “Schools have issued LCs to children of fogeys who raised their voices on the fee factor. Schools compelled parents to pay higher fees, which were not even licensed by means of the associated fee regulatory committee,” mentioned functionary of the All Gujarat Vali Mandal.
