PANAJI: Despite the state executive prohibiting digging of roads during the monsoon, businesses blatantly flout the law. What makes issues worse is that the latter fail to cover the dug up portion properly. Last week, Inacio Pereira and his wife Andrea, who fell into a dug up segment of the street, filed a criticism with Old Goa police. Police have filed an FIR towards PWD officials. The couple escaped with minor injuries.
On the night time of June 6, the couple used to be travelling to Bambolim on their twowheeler when, at St Cruz, Inacio rode into an blameless having a look puddle little figuring out that it used to be a pit created as a result of some paintings performed on that stretch of the street.
Duo blames sloppy paintings for injuries
In his criticism filed at Old Goa police station, Inacio, 40, said, “An employee of the PWD water supply division performed paintings of cutting the government avenue with out permission or soft and he did not fill the same properly.” Andrea, within the criticism, has alleged that two PWD workers undertook “substandard paintings” which led to their injuries. Both Inacio and Andrea sustained critical bruises.
“The avenue were dug up and then haphazardly stuffed with dust,” Andrea said, adding that rain had caused the filling to partly sink and partly run-off, leaving in the back of a pit. The coincidence occurred at 7.25pm. Police have registered an FIR beneath Section 283 of the IPC, which deals with ‘causing risk or obstruction in public approach or line of navigation’. Other sections carried out are 336 and 337, which care for ‘endangering existence or personal protection of others’.
North Goa collector Nila Mohanan had issued a notification prohibiting “digging and cutting of all types of roads, together with national highways, state highways, primary district roads, road-shoulders, lanes and thoroughfares during the monsoons” since those could reason endanger the lives of motorists, pedestrians and normal public and impede the glide of traffic.
Mohanan said her office has no longer won experiences of this incident.
