Delhi: AAP out on streets, wants city to join

NEW DELHI: While chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and three Delhi ministers sit down on protest inside of Raj Niwas, the Aam Aadmi Party determined to launch a campaign outside to force lieutenant governor Anil Baijal at the CM’s calls for — directing the bureaucrats to end their ‘strike’, punishment for the ‘placing’ govt officers and approval of the scheme at the doorstep supply of ration. Saying the so-called strike was once affecting the capital’s citizens, AAP assets added that the protest would accentuate till the “calls for are honoured”.

On Tuesday, AAP determined at a meeting of party MLAs at Kejriwal’s residence that the legislators, municipal councillors and party leaders and activists would march to Raj Niwas to give a boost to the CM and three ministers who're protesting there since Monday evening. Other agitational programmes are being planned from Thursday.

“A dangerous state of affairs has evolved in Delhi within the last 4 months since the IAS officers are on strike and are warding off conferences,” AAP Delhi spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj stated in an appeal on social media. “Despite the water crisis, the officers don't seem to be coming to conferences. The drains have not been de-silted and there might be large water logging issues during the monsoon, preventive measures towards dengue are required however the IAS officers don't seem to be attending conferences.”

The appeal further stated, “The LG is supporting the strike. CM and ministers are sitting on dharna inside of Raj Niwas to get the strike ended, however the LG isn't doing the rest about it. We are going to organise a march to LG House. I appeal to you to come back and join the march.” Similar appeals had been issued through other AAP leaders. AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh once more hit out on the Prime Minister and alleged, “At the example of Narendra Modi, the LG has crippled Delhi govt.”

This protest and the Delhi statehood campaign are more likely to set the tone for AAP’s 2019 common election preparations. The party could also be involved with other opposition leaders at the state of affairs rising from the CM’s dharna.
