BENGALURU: Conservation architects from Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach) have taken objection to the fabric being used to renovate the two dilapidated fern homes in Cubbon Park. The horticulture division, custodian of the fern homes, has stopped and referred to as for a meeting on July 1.
The fern homes, one close to the State Central Library and the opposite in the back of Victoria Statue, have been built within the 19th century.
“The structure was built using brick and lime. Now, the horticulture division is using cement to renovate it, ignoring Intach’s proposal,” mentioned Pankaj Modi, Intach member and conservation architect.
The two fern homes have been once home to hundreds of shade crops and creepers.
Mahantesh Murgod, deputy director, Cubbon Park, horticulture division, mentioned renovation of the fern house close to Victoria Statue is nearly over and paintings at the different has been stopped. “I am not too sure if they can be referred to as heritage constructions as they haven’t been documented so anyplace. But we are treating them as heritage constructions and dealing on their renovation. Intach gave us an offer, but hasn’t renewed its contract with the government. Hence, the paintings was entrusted to some other government agency. We have not demolished any structure. We will in a while have a meeting with Intach individuals and different professionals and speak about what needs to be finished,” he mentioned.
Intach individuals, on the other hand, mentioned this is a Union government-sponsored frame. “The Karnataka Gazette has mentioned the principles of Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement Act 1999, do not apply for procurement of Intach services and products for landscaping, protecting fencing, preservation, recovery and conservation of designated temples, monuments and ancient puts within the state,” mentioned Meera Iyer, Intach convener.
