Flood alert sounded on Bhavani river banks

COIMBATORE: A flood alert has been sounded alongside river Bhavani within the district, as surplus water is being released from Pilloor dam, legit sources said lately.
People living on the banks of the river had been asked to transport to more secure puts, they said.

With the onset of the southwest monsoon, Coimbatore and neighbouring districts, particularly Nilgiris district, had been experiencing heavy rain within the catchment areas for the ultimate two days.


Besides, 12,000 cusecs of water are being released to Pilloor from Kunda dam in Nilgiris district, which is full, district collector T N Hariharan said in a press unlock right here.


In view of this, 6,000 cusecs of water are being released from Pilloor through every of the two sluice gates, due to which there is a chance of Bhavani to be in spate.


Considering the placement, the collector asked the folks living on the banks and low-lying areas to transport to more secure puts.


The water-level in Pilloor dam, which has 100 ft capability, touched 94 ft early lately as against 85 ft ultimate night time, following influx of 9 ft within the ultimate 12 hours, the sources said.
