Free run on EPE as toll plazas not ready

GREATER NOIDA: Nearly 20 days after the inauguration of Eastern Peripheral Expressway, toll collection is but to start at the stretch as toll plazas are but to be installed at many points between Dasna and Chajju Nagar (Chainsa) at the parkway. Though NHAI resources stated that toll collection was intended to start best on June 15, hardly ever any toll was accumulated up to now two days.

In most puts, toll operators are handing over slips to commuters whom they forestall with a gesture as there are not any boundaries to forestall cars. As in line with NHAI laws, a car is expected to pay toll on 8 points at the EPE at Jakhauli, Mavikalan, Dasna, Duhai, Bilakbarpur, Maujpur, Fatehpur Rampur (Sirsa) and Chhajju Nagar (Chainsa) across Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The car might be charged anything else between Rs 25 and Rs 1,380 depending at the length of the journey.

For example, a car driving force pays toll tax at Dasna toll plaza and can display the toll slip at the rest of the toll plazas until Palwal. However, on Saturday, toll collection didn't happen at some of these points between Dasna and Chajju Nagar (Chainsa). A toll operator deployed at Fatehpur Rampur (Sirsa) toll plaza was observed handing over slips to drivers after gesturing them to forestall. Moreover, there are some kuccha roads connecting the villages with the EPE which permit heavy cars to go into the EPE without paying the toll. One may see vans wanting to steer clear of the toll enter the EPE from any of the access points before Palwal and transfer forward without any person noticing where they climbed up at the EPE.

These vans are additional helped by the numerous cuts between the 2 carriageways of the EPE which help them take a U-turn to the nearest go out level. TOI discovered as many as 10 cuts between Dasna toll plaza and Chhaju Nagar points. Only two cuts on this stretch were in part closed with channels which help an ambulance or a surveillance car to take a U-turn in case of an emergency.

On their section, NHAI officers informed TOI that they're in the process of putting in the system in toll plazas. Kishore Kanyal, challenge director, NHAI informed TOI that whilst toll collection system is practical on Kundli and Palwal toll plazas, groups are operating to install the system elsewhere.
