Gold worth Rs 60L seized at Chennai airport

CHENNAI: Customs officers seized gold price Rs 60 lakh from two passengers at Anna International Airport right here on Tuesday.
In the first case, Shahul Hameed, 38, who holds an Indian passport, arrived right here from Sharjah in an Air Arabia flight. He used to be intercepted on the go out of the arrival corridor.

During exam of his checked-in baggage, officers found 29 gold reduce bits – of 24 karat purity. The gold bits utterly weighed 1,513 grams and were price Rs 46.7 lakh.

They were wrapped round a computer adapter with black color adhesive tape. The passenger used to be arrested.


In the second case, Mohamed Farook,44, who holds an Indian passport, arrived right here from Dubai in an Emirates flight. He used to be intercepted on the go out of the arrival corridor.


During exam of his checked-in baggage, nine gold reduce bits -- of 24 karat purity – were found. The gold bits weighed 429 grams and were price Rs 13 lakh. They were wrapped round a computer adapter with black color adhesive tape.


The worth of the seized gold used to be Rs 13 lakh, officers mentioned.
