NEW DELHI: India has requested social media corporate Facebook Inc to respond via June 20 to media reports of sharing users data without their particular consent, a central authority remark stated on Thursday.
"Recently there are media reports claiming that Facebook has agreements which are allowing phone and other device manufacturers access to its users' personal information, including that of their friends, without taking their explicit consent. The Government of India is deeply concerned about reports of such lapses/violations," the remark stated.
"The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has sought an explanation from Facebook seeking a detailed factual report on the issue. Facebook has been asked to respond by June 20."
It stated that in accordance with previous notices about breaches of private data relating to the Cambridge Analytica episode, Facebook had apologised and given sturdy assurances to the federal government that they'd take honest efforts to protect the privacy of users' data on the platform.
"However, such reports carry uncomfortable questions in regards to the assurances made via Facebook," the remark added.
In case of data leaks to Cambridge Analytica, Facebook had admitted 335 folks in India were without delay affected thru an app installation, and another 5,62,120 folks were doubtlessly affected as friends of those users.
The social community giant confronted grievance in the United States on Wednesday from Republican and Democratic lawmakers who demanded that the social media corporate be more approaching about data it has shared with 4 Chinese firms.
