Jharkhand high court extends Lalu Prasad's provisional bail on medical ground

RANCHI: The Jharkhand prime courtroom on Friday prolonged the provisional bail of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad for some other six weeks on medical grounds within the fodder scam circumstances.

Prasad, whose provisional bail used to be prolonged till July 3 last Friday, would now remain on bail till August 17 as in step with today's order.

The extension of the bail duration by Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh of the Jharkhand High Court used to be granted in 3 circumstances of multi-crore fodder scam related to fraudulent withdrawal of cash from Chaibasa, Deogarh and Dumka treasuries by the Animal Husbandry department in combined Bihar within the 90s.

Pleading for the previous Bihar leader minister, Supreme Court legal professional Abhishek Manu Singhvi submitted that Prasad is affected by fistula and is chronic diabetic affected person and calls for time to get better post-operation.

CBI suggest Rajiv Sinha objected to it, saying the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science at Ranchi is capable to care for the case.

Hearing both sides, the bench of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh granted six weeks provisional bail on medical grounds to the RJD president.

The bench had on May 11 granted six weeks provisional bail on medical grounds, which used to be to expire on June 27. On June 22, the bench of performing Chief Justice D N Patel prolonged it till July 3, fixing today to for hearing.


The next date for hearing is on August 10.


Chitranjan Sinha, who assisted Abhishek Manu Singhvi today, mentioned that on August 3 they have to put up latest medical studies of Prasad.


Prasad has been convicted in four circumstances of the multi-crore fodder scam - Chaibasa Treasury on September 30, 2013, some other Chaibasa Treasury (RC68A/96) on January 24, 2018, Deoghar Treasury (RC 64A/96) on February 23, 2018 and Dumka Treasury (RC38A/96) on February 19.


In the primary case RC 20A/96 related to Chaibasa treasury, Prasad used to be sentenced on September 30, 2013 for five years and barred from contesting elections for 6 years. Later, he got bail within the case.
