M'luru smart city: Rs 2,400cr proposals reviewed

MANGALURU: Urban construction and housing minister U T Khader said thet paintings on the entire 66 initiatives value Rs 2,400.72 crore, deliberate beneath the Mangaluru Smart City challenge, will likely be taken up on a battle footing.

Officials explained on the meeting that the pan city construction envisages application of decided on sensible answers to the existing city-wide infrastructure. A complete of 27 initiatives/ components had been proposed to be taken up at an estimated value of Rs 693.43 crore beneath pan city construction, officials said.


Meanwhile, beneath the Area Based Development (ABD), 38 initiatives had been proposed to be applied at an estimated value of Rs 1,707.29 crore. A complete of 1,628 acres known within the Central Business District round Hampankatta, Bunder and Car Street is proposed for retrofitting and redevelopment beneath 10 initiatives beneath ABD. These spaces with a population of 53,429 and 12,756 families are known as Fisheries Hub and Central Business District. Some of the major initiatives proposed beneath ABD include redevelopment of fisheries harbour along side fish marketplace, retrofit of Old Port, redevelopment of Central Market, Water Front Marina Development, multilevel automotive parking, installation of rooftop solar on executive buildings and treatment of waste water for reuse. In addition to sensible city fund, ABD and pan city initiatives will use PPP Funding, convergence of central, state, ABD schemes, ULB investment from own source and contribution from beneficiaries, officials explained.


Minister Khader said, “Mangaluru will turn into Smart City within the days to come and it will be a job fashion for all of the country. The managing director (Mohammed Nazeer) of the Mangalore Smart City Limited (MSCL) can have whole responsibility within the implementation of the initiatives. The managing director must cling overview meetings at least one time in 15 days and the board of administrators meet must be held every month. He can have powers to start up action against consultants and officials in case of any failure. Meanwhile, action must be taken to fill the entire vacancies within the ULB.”
