MYSURU: As part of its efforts to get rid of the usage of plastic within town limits and within the run-up to the World Environment Day, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) introduced a month-long campaign on the Kote Maramma temple premises right here on Friday.
Besides mayor S Bhagyavathi, MCC commissioner Jagadish and health officers Nagaraj and Ramachandra, scholars and voters participated within the three-hour long force. More than 15 saplings were planted on the Kote Maramma temple premises, and three truckloads of plastic was cleared.
MCC commissioner Jagadish instructed TOI, "The campaign will last the entire month. We will hold awareness programmes, and carry out raids to get rid of plastic in Mysuru. Although plastic is banned across the state, people continue to use it. We will initiate a drive against the use of plastic, and stringent action will be initiated against those found selling it."
The MCC commissioner said that they'd organise a workshop, together with the Hotel owners' Association. "We are also conducting a workshop for ragpickers," Jagadish added.
To encourage scholars to play a more proactive position in conserving the surroundings clean, awards got to one of the crucial members on the force on Friday.
Member of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, the Swachh Bharat ambassador, was unable to attend the force at Kote Maramma temple owing to ill health.
