MUMBAI: Alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay have tweeted about juniors being matter to sexual harassment. Former students have despatched tweets to HRD minister Prakash Javadekar, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, house minister Rajnath Singh and the town police with main points of scholar court cases filed with the institute.
In some of the court cases, a scholar has alleged that a "popular" senior known as him over to his room and kissed him and, in some other instance, requested the junior to lick his tongue while the alleged wrongdoer kissed him.
"Sexual harassment complaints from students of IIT Bombay being pushed under the carpet. Please investigate and take action," tweeted a former scholar.
"Some students on campus feel the institute discouraged and stopped them from filing a police complaint," said some other.
"We cannot possibly legally stop students from filing a police complaint. This is an abject blatant lie," said dean of scholar affairs Soumyo Mukherji.
Meanwhile, extra cases alleging sexual harassment are tumbling out.
When the matter first came to light on March eight, the institute concept the students can have "misconstrued or misunderstood the apparent unwarranted behaviour", however the authorities acted as a couple of scholar had complained.
"The nature of complaints coming now is quite serious and more students are writing about what they underwent. If we had these complaints earlier, the discourse would have been very different," said an IIT respectable.
