Nationwide farmers' strike has no impact in district

MYSURU: The 10-day farmers' strike known as by means of the Rashtriya Kisan Maha Sangh, an umbrella group of all the farmers' associations, has failed to rouse any response in Mysuru district till now.
The vegetable supply is intact, while milk, meat, and different supplies also are standard. Meanwhile, farmer chief Kodihalli Chandrashekar said the protest in Karnataka will begin on June 6.

According to vegetable dealers in the city, even though the bandh began on Friday, there's no dip in supply. "Farmers are sending loads of fruits and vegetables. There is some variation in the price due to Nipah fear. But the supply has not come down. In fact it has increased as supply to Kerala has come down," said Shekar, a vegetable dealer from Devaraja Market in the city.

"This is the vegetable harvesting time for many farmers. An agitation at this juncture will create a lot of problem for them," he said.

Rajappa, a vegetable provider from Nanjangud, said he is not acutely aware of any more or less bandh. "No one informed us. This is not the right time to call bandh as farmers are busy preparing for monsoon farming," he said.

Chandrashekar, who is also president of Rajya Raita Sangha, said that in Karnataka the bandh will start from June 6. "Even though the protest started on June 1 across the country, in Karnataka, we were unable to start it due to various reasons, including election. But from June 6, we will start an indefinite protest and stop supplies to all the cities," he said.

Expressing self assurance that the agitation will be a success, Chandrashekar said that all the like-minded organizations and unions will fortify our bandh to verify justice to the farming neighborhood.
