NRIs hold food fests in US to raise funds for TN

COIMBATORE: A Tamil family of five, living and settled in Atlanta in the US, participated in cleansing Vellalore and Ukkadam lakes in Coimbatore district on Sunday.
The family members helped environmentalists plant saplings and remove water hyacinths. They gave funding to shop for 1,500 saplings to be planted across the water our bodies.

The family comprising two kids, two men and a girl conducts a meals competition in Atlanta on the World Earth Day (on April 22) every year to boost finances to toughen setting protection projects in Tamil Nadu, stated Coimbatore-based environmentalist R Manikandan.


The NRIs, who've been in Tamil Nadu for the final one week, are on a project to participate in eco-friendly and setting protection actions within the state.


The family come to India every year to participate in an atmosphere challenge every year.


“One of our contacts who used to be involved with the family had told them that we need monetary and bodily toughen in planting saplings and disposing of water hyacinths from the water our bodies. So the family gave us funding to procure 1,500 saplings,” he added.
