MANGALURU: After a damage of a few days, rains again pounded the district with alarming ferocity with Belthangady and Bantwal taluks receiving heavy rainfall from Thursday.
The intensity was once such that by morning many primary roads in Belthangady and Venoor in Moodbidri taluk of the district have been knee-deep under water as rivers overflowed. The State Highway close to Navachethana School, Venoor was once under water affecting traffic. Understanding the gravity of the location, the revenue government of Puttur, Belthangady and Sullia taluks declared vacation for colleges.
The Ghat sections of the district namely Charmadi, Agumbe have won heavy rainfall affecting customary existence and traffic along those routes. "The compensation released towards rain damages at present is very less. The government will discuss about it and take steps to increase the quantum."
He mentioned reimbursement will also be paid to tenants in case the rented properties are damaged. During rain havocs other folks residing in rented properties too suffer losses. However, they don't seem to be being compensated adequately. Hence, we're making plans to pay reimbursement to tenants too, the minister mentioned.
The executive has launched Rs three crore each and every to Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts to compensate rain damages. The government will release additional funds if required," he added.
