RBI turns net seller of US dollar in April

MUMBAI: After remaining internet buyer of the USA bucks for previous many months, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) become internet supplier in April, after it offered $2.483 billion of the USA currency within the spot marketplace, in keeping with its knowledge.

During the reporting month, the apex bank purchased $five.536 billion of bucks from the spot marketplace, while it offered $eight.019 billion.

In April 2017, RBI was internet buyer of the USA currency as it had purchased $1.751 billion and offered $1.185 billion within the spot marketplace.

In March this year, it was internet supplier as it had purchased $three.328 billion, and offered $2.332 billion.

RBI has all the time said that its intervention within the foreign currencies marketplace to curb volatility within the rupee and to not target a level of the domestic currency.


In FY18, the apex had internet purchased $33.689 billion from the spot marketplace. It had purchased $52.068 billion from the spot marketplace, while selling $18,379 billion.


In FY17, RBI had purchased $12.351 billion of bucks on a internet basis.


In the forward greenback marketplace, the outstanding internet forward purchase on the end of April was $17.393 billion.


The internet forward purchase on the end of March was $20.853 billion, RBI said.
