Reconsider decision to attend RSS meet, Cong tells Pranab

GUWAHATI: Assam Congress president Ripun Bora on Tuesday wrote to former President Pranab Mukherjee to make one remaining attempt to convince him to rethink his decision to handle RSS at its headquarters in Nagpur on Thursday.

"Since you have been fighting for the cause of the great Congress ideology of secularism, now it is very surprising that you are going to attend the meeting of such an organization which is totally opposed to that principle. Secularism is not only the basic foundation of the Constitution of India but also forms the social fabric of our nation. You are also aware that the RSS cadre Nathuram Godse had killed the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, due to this very ideological conflict on secularism," Bora wrote.

On the RSS, Bora wrote," By ignoring our nation's multiple diversities, RSS has now created hatred, mistrust and divisions among different casts, creeds and communities. This is also the organization which is responsible for the unabated growth of social and religious intolerance as well as the politics of religious polarization during the last four years of misrule of the BJP government at the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
