Revenue minister discusses rain relief for ryots in Mysuru, Chamarajanagar

MYSURU: Revenue minister R V Deshpande directed the deputy commissioners to tour their respective districts widely to deal with the issues faced through farmers and ordered them to not take leave till the monsoon ends.
Deshpande, who headed a meeting of officials from quite a lot of departments referring to monsoon-related damages in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts at Zilla Panchayat administrative center on Monday, expressed disappointment over some officials in addressing the issues of farmers affected by crop harm.

When Mandya DC N Manjushri said that 376 houses were damaged as a result of rain within the district, and Rs 3,200 repayment had been given to homeowners whose houses had suffered as much as 15% damages and Rs 5,000 for 30% and above damages, Deshpande said that the volume which is being given is below the information. “Farmers must be given the true loss incurred due to rain,” he said.

However, when farmers complained that heavy rain had damaged electricity transformers of their villages and due to nexus between the native linemen and Cesc officials, the damaged transformers aren't being changed or repaired, Deshpande directed the DCs to tour the districts and to submit a report back to him. “DCs must now not take leave till the monsoon ends. But then can avail it simplest during emergencies. The respective DCs must submit record each and every week, and must conduct video convention on rain damages twice a week,” he said.

Speaking at the meeting, agriculture minister N H Shivashankara Reddy clarified that there's no shortage of seeds and fertilizers. “We have enough inventory of seeds and fertilizers. Officers have been directed to submit weekly record on the availability of fertilizers,” he added.


Stating that 88 farmers have claimed crop insurance coverage in 2016-17, Reddy said that officials have been directed to increase farm insurance coverage to more farmers. He said: “In Mysuru district, 54 hectares of land has been damaged due to rain, affecting crops to the song of Rs 3.52 lakh. The misplaced at Chamarajanagar district stands at Rs nine.65 lakh as rain damaged crops grown on 143 hectares. The executive is considering on adopting Israel type of water management.”


Reacting to the federal government’s promise of waiving farmers’ mortgage, Reddy said that the issue will likely be mirrored within the coming funds. He said that executive is considering to deposit Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 to farmers’ accounts to encourage agriculture actions, and this will likely be accomplished on the strains of direct-benefit transfer for LPG.
