Sarbananda Sonowal an escapist: Prabajan Virodhi Manch

GUWAHATI: The Prabajan Virodhi Manch (PVM), an anti-influx frame, has described chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal as an 'escapist' for no longer taking a clear stand at the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, yet.

"Sonowal said he had requested the home ministry to set up a committee to make recommendations for implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord that guarantees constitutional, legislative and administrative safeguards to protect, preserve and promote the cultural, social and linguistic identity and heritage of Assamese people. But the reality is that such a committee will serve no purpose as the primary issues on which safeguards have to be given are within the domain of the state legislature. The Centre has virtually nothing to do with it," mentioned PVM convener Upamanyu Hazarika who could also be a Supreme Court legal professional.

Addressing the media on Monday, the PVM blamed the state executive for no longer taking ok steps at the suggestions of the HS Brahma Committee on protective the rights of indigenous folks. "The committee has already given a detailed report to the state government but instead of taking measures, the government now wants a central committee, which has no jurisdiction on these aspects, to decide the issue. It's a clear case of escaping responsibility and fooling the people of the state," he alleged.
