COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu higher schooling department has clarified that retirement age of principals is self-financing faculties is 62 and requested Bharathiar University to observe the federal government order regarding it. The university would ship a round to all concerned faculties, said registrar in-charge B Vanitha.
In a communication to the university dated June 27, principal secretary to the higher schooling department Sunil Paliwal requested the registrar to rigorously observe the instructions of the federal government which says the retirement age of principals of self-financing faculties must be 62.
A syndicate meeting of the university held in September 2017 raised the retirement age of principals of self-financing faculties to 65. Following this, Paliwal wrote to the university asking the management to observe the GO dated 18-Eight-2003 which says the retirement age of principals in self-financing faculties will have to be 62.
However, the university had written to the higher schooling department looking for leisure of the age restrict as some faculties had asked it, said registrar in-charge B Vanitha. “We wrote looking for rationalization on whether or not to observe the age restrict consistent with the syndicate resolution or what's given within the GO,” she said.
In his communication on Wednesday, Paliwal said the federal government reiterates its earlier instructions to retain the retirement age as 62.
Vanitha said the university would factor a be aware order and ship circulars to all faculties informing that the retirement age of principals must be 62.
Reacting to this, representatives of self-financing faculties said they'd observe the state’s instructions. “Almost 20 years ago we had requested for leisure of the retirement age to 65 as lets no longer in finding principals for our faculties. But now as the federal government has advised the age restrict must be 62, we can adhere to it,” said Association of Self Financing Colleges secretary AMM Khaleel.
Academics and teachers associations welcomed the move. “The norms put down by means of the UGC must be followed. The university must no longer grant special permission for age leisure in keeping with requests. The age restrict of 62 must be followed,” said president of Tamil Nadu Government Collegiate Teachers Association (TNGCTA) T Veeramani.
