CHENNAI: Teachers in govt schools and universities in the state are set to get a pay hike after a gap of nearly 10 years. Based on the seventh pay fee advice, the state govt will issue orders revising their pay scale in a week’s time, stated a senior govt reliable, adding that their salaries would upward push through 18% to 24%.
Under the new pay scale, professors are set to earn a basic pay of greater than Rs 1.Four lakh per 30 days, which is 30% greater than a TN MLA’s wage. The pay of entry-level educating workforce like assistant professors will be hiked to round Rs 70,000 per 30 days from round Rs 55,000.

“The changes would come into notional impact from January 1, 2016 and fiscal impact from October 1, 2017,” stated the reliable. This indicates that govt academics would even be dropping arrears for 21 months on the lines of other state govt workers. Tamil Nadu is ready to be the second state in the nation to revise the pay of presidency academics in accordance with the seventh pay fee suggestions as directed through the University Grants Commission (UGC). Associate professors would get a basic pay of Rs.1.31 lakh, while the basic pay of professors has been fastened at Rs.1.Four-1.eight lakh as in keeping with the revised scale.


Teachers could be receiving dearness, city reimbursement, area rent and clinical allowances over and above the basic pay. While DA could be 7% of the basic pay, other allowances will range according to their location and pay scales.


M Ravichandran, the retired predominant of a central authority faculty, stated it was a pity that no other state with the exception of Arunachal Pradesh had come ahead to adopt UGC’s revised pay scale, adding that the move through Tamil Nadu was a welcome step.


“TN will be a pioneering state in recognising the services and products of college training. For further main points, one needs to wait until the actual govt order is issued,” he added.
