Sensex slumps 260 points as US-China trade war escalates

NEW DELHI: Equity indices on Tuesday noticed a disappointing day as trade warfare between financial heavyweights US and China escalated, weighing down international cues.

30-share BSE Sensex misplaced 261.52 issues to close at 35,286.74 while the wider 50-share NSE Nifty misplaced almost a consistent with cent finishing slightly above 10,700.


On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 10 consistent with cent tariff on $200 billion of Chinese items and Beijing warned it would retaliate. Trump's latest transfer, as Washington fights trade battles on several fronts, was once abruptly swift and sharp. It was once retaliation, he mentioned, for China's resolution to lift price lists on $50 billion in US items, which got here after Trump announced identical price lists on Chinese items on Friday.


At Dalal Street on Tuesday, auto, IT, steel and PSU Bank sub-indices shed more than a consistent with cent every.


ITC, ONGC and HDFC Bank shares managed to salvage some good points on an another way discouraging day for traders.
