Udhagamandalam: To reignite the waning interest in football, the Nilgiris Documentation Centre (NDC) has proposed to organize a ‘World Cup Soccer Fest’ in Ooty quickly.
Events corresponding to photographic exhibition, highlights of the history of the sport, honouring of yesteryear avid gamers will likely be part of the fest.
NDC has appealed to the administration and the public to lend images, memorabilia, articles and books on Nilgiris football in their private ownership for display on the fest.
According to Dharmalingam Venugopal, director, NDC, football got here to the Nilgiri hills with the European soldiers of the Wellington Cantonment in 1850s and spread during the public faculties like Lawrence Memorial School and St. Joseph’s College.
