Trickster weds Kodagu woman after a string of lies

BENGALURU: In a matrimonial fraud that has left investigators stumped, a Bengaluru guy has allegedly cheated a Kodagu lady in an organized marriage that he sealed thru a string of lies. He claimed he had a lucrative job at Tata Motors, owned a Jaguar car, bungalow and flat, and was more youthful than his exact age.

Cornered by cops, the person justified his behavior. And quoted a Kannada proverb — ‘Saavira sullu heli ondu maduve maadu’ (1000 lies to seal a wedlock) — in defence. The suspect, a 35-year-old guy from Rajarajeshwarinagar, approached the lady’s circle of relatives in Kodagu district seven months in the past, and the alliance was mounted thru acquaintances.

The string of lies began with the person’s pretend age. “He told the lady’s circle of relatives he was a field officer with Tata Motors in Bengaluru and was drawing a per month wage of Rs 60,000. He showed solid wage slips and other job documents,” stated BS Saraswathi, a senior counsellor with Vanitha Sahayavani (girls’s counselling centre) at Bengaluru police commissionerate. He paraded a KTM Duke motorcycle and a brand-new high-end Jaguar car. He had it seems that taken the automobile on a test force from a Bengaluru showroom.

He had perhaps paid the employees attheconstruction sitetocorroborate his lies,” Saraswathi stated.

The guy also took the circle of relatives to a priest in Bengaluru, who he stated would behavior the housewarming ceremony. The suspect, who claimed he owned the apartment and lived on my own in it, married the lady in January.

The lady’s dream of a cheerful married life began to disintegrate quickly after she moved into her husband’s flat and realised it wasn’t his. He hadn’t paid rent for 6 months.


Much to her shock, the suspect’s father, an alcoholic, his mother and brother all lived within the flat.


As days handed, she learnt he didn’t possess a Jaguar, KTM or Kengeri area. She also found out that her husband was several years older than he claimed he was, and he wasn’t a Tata employee. He was a faculty dropout-turned-conman.


The shattered lady also faced bodily abuse from the suspect and his mother when she puzzled them about the fraud. The suspect’s father tried to sexually assault her inebriated numerous instances, assets stated.


The lady fled to Kodagu in May. Determined to get divorced, she landed on the police commissionerate ultimate week on the intervention of relatives and sought aid from Vanitha Sahayavani. “Her husband’s circle of relatives took her jewelry and refused to go back her belongings. After we were given involved, they returned her clothes,” stated some other counsellor. The suspect was not too long ago called to the commissionerate for a counselling session where he remained unrepentant. He felt emboldened by his spouse’s concern of lodging a police complaint, assets stated.
