WPI inflation rises to 14-month high in May on costlier fuel, veggies

NEW DELHI: Inflation based on wholesale prices shot up to a 14-month high of four.43 according to cent in May on expanding prices of petrol and diesel as well as greens.

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) primarily based inflation stood at 3.18 according to cent in April and 2.26 according to cent in May ultimate yr.

According to govt information launched as of late, inflation in meals articles was at 1.60 according to cent in May 2018, as against 0.87 according to cent within the previous month.

May inflation at 4.43 according to cent was a 14-month peak. The previous high was in March 2017, when the WPI inflation stood at 5.11 according to cent.


In its second financial coverage assessment for the fiscal, the Reserve Bank previous this month hiked rate of interest by means of 0.25 according to cent-- the primary hike in more than four years -- because of rising considerations about inflation stoked by means of rising international crude oil prices as well as domestic price will increase.


The price of Indian basket of crude surged from $66 a barrel in April to round $74 lately.
