Wrestlers flex muscles at waste plant protest site in Noida

NOIDA: A group of wrestlers on Tuesday staged a protest against the waste-to-energy plant in Noida’s Sector 123. They demanded that the dumping ground be relocated as it's going to have critical implications on the health of native residents.

The wrestlers from other villages like Sorkha, Sarfabad and Gadhi Chaukhandi accrued close to the protest web site subsequent to Homes 121 and marched around the Parthala roundabout. But once they attempted to move against the waste plant web site, they were stopped through police. The protesting contributors raised slogans earlier than dispersing.

Sukhveer Pahalwan and other residents, who were released from judicial custody on Monday, also joined the protest. “Our ethical has boosted after going to prison and we will proceed the combat,” he said.

Advocate Mahendra Singh, a resident of Gadhi Chaukhandi village, who used to be among 26 other folks arrested on June 4 for protesting against the waste plant, said prison authorities behaved neatly with them. “They knew that we are preventing for a good reason. All the 26 arrested other folks were saved in a separate barrack, clear of the other accused. We got dal, roti and sabzi like other inmates and there used to be no discrimination,” he said.


Singh said some of the ones arrested remained on fast in prison for 4 days against police motion. He said that everyday some native residents or politicians had visited them in prison. “Every day we enquired in regards to the protest and likewise the development work of the waste plant,” he said.


Sonu Pahalwan, a resident of Sorkha village, also spent one week in prison after he used to be arrested. “We have resolved to not allow waste-to-energy plant in our neighbourhood. We are able to go to prison once more if the police and administration want so,” he said. While 24 persons were released from judicial custody on Monday, two others — Rambhul Pradhan and Pushpendra — are still in prison as stringent fees have been slapped on them.


Former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav on Monday also supported the protest against the waste plant in Sector 123. “People in power must think of wholesome Indians along side ‘Swachh Bharat.’ Samajwadi Party helps the protest against dumping ground. The BJP must understand the ache of aggrieved residents and forsake the ‘Swachh Bharat,’ for show off,” he said.
