3 thrashed in Chennai, Tripura over rumours of child-lifting

CHENNAI/AGARTALA: Incidents of violence incited by means of social media rumours about child-lifters on the prowl continued to wreak havoc across the country with Sunday being no exception.

While one person was attacked by means of a mob in Dhalai district of Tripura on Sunday, two men from Bihar had been severely beaten at Teynampet in Chennai on Saturday night time.

In the Tripura incident, Kishan Das, a government worker, was attacked by means of a mob at Manu in Dhalai district and was admitted to Agartala Government Medical College with serious injuries.

“Das was travelling to Dharmanagar by means of an area teach. When it halted at a station, Das got down and missed the teach. He then started walking alongside the tracks against the following station Manu,” police stated.

“With rumours of child-lifters doing the rounds within the space, villagers should have discovered a stranger walking down the tracks suspicious. They stuck him and beat him up,” police stated.

Jawans from the Tripura State Rifles posted close by gained details about the assault, rescued Das and took him to sanatorium.

No arrests were made thus far, police stated.

In Chennai, the two men, hired with a building company engaged in Metro Rail paintings, had been attacked once they tried to stop a minor boy from crossing a hectic road and a bystander raised an alarm suspecting them to be child-lifters. A crowd amassed quickly, chased the men and beat them up. They had been rescued by means of a police staff and rushed to a private sanatorium. The two men were recognized as Gopal Sahu, 25, and Binoth Vihari, 22.

“Gopal knew the boy’s family and tried to stop the kid from crossing the busy road,” stated a police officer.
