Coimbatore: The rural police have nabbed five extra folks, who posed as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths and tried to dupe a scientific store owner at Karumathampatti of Rs 50 lakh on Friday. Police additionally seized a handcuff, a walkie -talkie, 3 bikes and two cellphones from them.

Police recognized the gang chief as R Perumal of VOC Nagar in Coimbatore, who was brushed aside from the police division. “He had visited Divine scientific store owned via Sathya, spouse of Victor Kanagaraj of Karumathampatti, on July 12, to shop for medicine for varicose veins. He later turned up on the scientific store and flashed an identification card announcing that he was a police constable with the armed reserve police. He was accompanied via K Amar of Goldwins, A Amjithkhan of Selvapuram, S Madurai Veeran from Virudhunagar, R Maheswaran and K Illaiyarajan of Chinniyampalayam, T Navaneetha Krishnan of Karumathampatti, C Ravi of Gandhi Maa Nagar and T Saravanan of Gandhi Maa Nagar, who pretended to be CBI officers,” a police officer mentioned.


The gang told Sathya that she were prescribing medications to public without a scientific degree and threatened to arrest her. “Perumal brandished handcuffs and told her that he would arrest her and drag her through the streets. He demanded Rs 50 lakh to keep away from the arrest. The woman agreed to get the cash from a relative’s area. Believing her phrases, the nine-member gang allowed her to go away the shop. Sathya, then again, approached her neighbours and asked them to tell police in regards to the gang,” the officer mentioned.


Karumathampatti police reached the spot and arrested Perumal, Madurai Veeran, Maheswaran and Ilaiyaraja. But the remainder of the gang participants controlled to flee. However, police arrested them on Friday evening. TNN
