5 sniffer dogs join police war on drugs

GUWAHATI: Assam Police have 'recruited' 5 sniffer canine which concentrate on detecting illegal medication. Trained at National Training Centre for Dogs (NTCD), an academy run through the BSF in Madhya Pradesh, the canine reached here final week and might be deployed around the state quickly. The canine are of German shepherd and Labrador retriever breeds.

Superintendent of police (CID) PK Nath advised TOI, "These five canines were specially procured to fight the drug menace in the state. Though the state has acted as a major transit point of contrabands and narcotics for a long time, this is the first time that Assam Police have added narcotics sniffer dogs."


Assam Police had inducted 15 canine in 2017 and despatched them to NTCD for training as neatly. "Out of them, 10 have completed their six-month training between December to June. The other five dogs are specialist in explosive detection," Nath added. The canine had been introduced in an air situation bus from Madhya Pradesh.
