Coimbatore: The bridge that connects Lingapuram with different villages in Mettupalayam taluk is at the verge of submerging with the water level in Bhavani Sagar catchment space emerging exponentially.
The 300m-long bridge connects Lingapuram with Gandhavayal, Mokkamedu, Alur, Melur, Keezhur and different villages. People should undergo Lingapuram and pass the bridge to reach different villages. The bridge, in-built 2004, is 110feet prime. As around 10,000cuesecs of water is being released from Pillur dam, the water level in Bhavani Sagar catchment space rose to greater than 107 feet.
“There is less than two feet for the water to hide the bridge’s floor as on Wednesday night time. We be expecting it to submerge the bridge in a day,” said M Ammasaikutti, a farmer from Lingapuram. He said if the bridge will get submerged, the villages at the different facet would be cut-off. “People from those villages can not come to this facet. Mainly students will likely be affected as they have to come to Lingapuram for school. The public will likely be affected as they can not get entry to necessary amenities corresponding to hospitals,” said R Thayanithi, a resident of Lingapuram.
People would don't have any different choice but to make use of coracles as in earlier days if the bridge will get submerged, said Ammasaikutti. “Even buses would forestall at Lingapuram and wouldn’t pass to Gandhavayal if the connecting bridge is cut-off,” he said.
Villagers said that they had been asking government to increase the peak of the bridge. “Since the bridge was once built, we have now been asking the officials to increase its top. But not anything has been achieved on this regard,” said Ammasaikutti.
When contacted, an administrative ofsficial from the taluk said they have been examining the bridge ceaselessly. “We don’t be expecting it to get submerged in water. However, as a precautionary measure, we restricted heavy cars from the use of the bridge,” the respectable said.
G Sumathi, an anganwadi trainer from Gandhavayal, said around 200 kids from the village needed to travel through the bridge to reach colleges and schools. “Also, five lecturers have to come to our village to show in the two fundamental colleges right here. As the water level is sort of near the bridge’s floor, they're reluctant to come to the village. If water runs over the bridge, we need to use coracles, which is dangerous,” she said.
