Chinese police to arrest 18 at scandal-hit vaccine firm

BEIJING: Police in the northeastern Chinese city of Changchun mentioned on Sunday that they had requested prosecutors to approve the arrest of 18 folks at Changsheng Bio-technology Co Ltd, a vaccine maker at the centre of a safety scandal.

China has introduced sweeping spot tests on vaccine makers after Changsheng used to be found to have falsified data and offered useless vaccines for children, a case that has ignited public anger.

China's drug regulator has accused Changsheng of fabricating manufacturing and inspection data related to a rabies vaccine often given to infants.

In a brief observation, Changchun city police mentioned that their investigation had already "basically" found that criminal activity used to be concerned in the company's vaccine manufacturing.

The 18 folks they've implemented to arrest include its chairwoman Gao Junfang, on suspicion of manufacturing and promoting substandard medicine, police mentioned, adding their probe used to be proceeding.

Changsheng mentioned remaining week that Gao, three senior executives and two mid-level workers were taken in for wondering by local police.

Calls to the corporate in search of remark went unanswered. It is unclear if Gao has been allowed to retain prison representation.

Prosecutors are not going to reject the arrest request.


The company has its major manufacturing base in Changchun.


China's cupboard investigation crew has found that Changsheng broke the law in production rabies vaccines, the state information agency Xinhua mentioned on Friday.


The investigation crew mentioned the corporate had systematically falsified manufacturing and trying out data to avoid regulatory scrutiny, in keeping with Xinhua.


President Xi Jinping has ordered all related departments to analyze the scandal, which has caused public outrage in what is the newest case of tainted scientific products.
