Dhoni third Indian to play 500 international matches

NEW DELHI: On the eve of his 37th birthday, former India captain MS Dhoni has etched his identify in history books via becoming the 3rd Indian cricketer to play 500 global suits. Dhoni's participation in the second one T20I of the three-match collection towards England marks his 500th global appearance.

Dhoni, who had retired from Test cricket in December 2014, performed 90 Test suits, 318 ODIs and 92 T20Is till date to develop into the 9th participant overall to reach the landmark.


Dhoni had scored 4876 runs with six loads and 33 part centuries before calling it an afternoon in Test cricket. He had gathered 9967 runs with 10 centuries and 67 part centuries in ODIs. The proper handed batsman has made 1455 runs with two fifties in the shortest structure of the sport before Friday's T20I at Cardiff.


With his gloves in the back of the wicket, Dhoni has taken overall 602 catches and effected 178 stumpings so far.


The two different Indian avid gamers to have achieved the feat are Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid with 664 games and 509 suits respectively. Having performed 463 ODIs, 200 Tests and one T20I, master blaster Sachin leads the record while Dravid sits at the eighth spot with 344 ODIs, 164 Tests and one T20I.


Mahela Jayawardene (652), Kumar Sangakkara (594) and Sanath Jayasuriya (586), Ricky Ponting (560), Shahid Afridi (524) and Jacques Kallis (519) are different avid gamers to get to the milestone.
