Discourage parents from using private vans to ferry children: Delhi govt tells schools

NEW DELHI: The Delhi executive has directed all faculties right here to deter oldsters from hiring private trucks to ferry their wards, claiming that these kinds of vehicles perform illegally and pose a danger to protection of kids.

The executive's directive to schools to sensitise oldsters on the factor comes after incidents during which the existence of scholars was put in peril by way of private vehicles because of non-adherence of motor vehicles rules.

"It is observed that for transportation of school children in Delhi primarily three modes of transport are being used-- vehicles owned by the educational institutions, vehicles hired by the educational institutions and vehicles hired by parents or guardians themselves," the Directorate of Education (DoE) said in a letter to schools.

The first two modes of shipping are simple to observe and it has been observed that the operators, usually, apply the ideas regarding transportation and protection of faculty kids beneath the Delhi Motor Vehicles Rules, 1993, it said.

However, the DoE said, "A majority of private vehicles hired by parents themselves are observed to be operating illegally without taking adequate safeguards towards the safety of school children, thus jeopardising the lives of young school children using this form of transport."

The directorate additional observed that "most of these vehicles are overloaded and are piled dangerously and (are driven)recklessly at great speeds in utter disregard to traffic rules and regulations."

"There have been numerous instances of fatal accidents involving these illegal vehicles wherein young school going children have lost their lives," it said.


The faculties had been requested to sensitise oldsters all the way through Parent Teacher Meetings (PTMs) and use other interactive forums for the purpose.


"Parents must be asked to make use of safe transport provided by the schools and abstain from sending their children in illegal school vans/cabs which can prove dangerous or fatal owing to non-adherence of motor vehicles law," DoE said.


The Delhi Government had closing year shaped a high-level committee comprising DoE, shipping division and police officials, college principals and other stake holders to place ahead tips to ensure protection of scholars in faculties as well as all the way through their transportation backward and forward faculties.


The committee was shaped within the wake of the homicide of a seven-year-old boy in Ryan International School, Gurgaon, and alleged rape of a five-year-old in a faculty in Shahdara.
