Farmer ends life over rain water dispute

LUDHIANA: The Koom Kalan police have booked a person and his two sons on fees of abetment to suicide after a farmer ended his existence over rain water dispute at Bhaini Doaba village in the district.
Accused had been recognized as Ajit Singh and his two sons Sukhwinder Singh alias Billa and Jarnail Singh are also citizens of the similar village.

The 58-year-old deceased Kashmira Singh, in a suicide observe left in the back of, blamed the accused as reason for finishing his existence. They had allegedly let the surplus rain water from their fields into Kashmira’s fields, ‘damaging’ his crop.

His son Jaswinder Singh told TOI, “My father was a farmer. Adjacent to our box is the sector of Ajit Singh and his sons. Due to rainfall, stagnant water was standing on both the fields. Ajit singh and his sons used to unencumber their water onto our fields the usage of a pipe. This irked us as the crop would get ruined. My father requested them several times to not accomplish that however his plea fell on deaf ears. Ajit used to abuse and threaten my father. This pressure drove my father into melancholy. Subsequently, he ended his existence.” He hung himself with a girder in the tubewell room in the fields, he said.


The family reported the matter to the police after the frame of the deceased was found by his family members.


The police have booked the accused under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).


Investigating officer of the case, assistant sub inspector (ASI) Kamaljit Singh said that they had found a suicide observe wherein the deceased had accused Ajit and his sons for forcing him to finish his existence. The accused people are but to be arrested and are on the run.
