NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has directed the income tax (I-T) department to make sure filing all its petitions sooner than the National Company Law tribunal (NCLT) by means of August 31 to recover due taxes price crores of rupees from a variety of de-registered shell or dummy firms.
The policymaking frame of the tax department has issued the directive as part of the action plan unveiled recently.
The executive, last year, had struck off nearly 2.three lakh firms for attractive in illegal activities and as part of PM Narendra Modi executive's drive towards black money. Similar action towards about 2.25 lakh more such firms, often known as shell or dummy firms, is predicted quickly. The CBDT in May had directed the I-T department to form a special staff of officials to complete the duty of filing these petitions in more than a few NCLT benches around the country.
A news agency had reported that a letter was written by means of the CBDT to all its regional chiefs, pointing out that the I-T department is an "aggrieved creditor" vis-a-vis these struck-off shell firms and the taxman must therefore adopt all efforts to file these petitions to get its dues from them.
The CBDT believes the appeals for "restoration" of those firms are required to recover tax dues and "protect the legitimate interests of revenue". companies
