Malaysian students to learn Tamil linguistics in BU

Coimbatore: A total of 13 students from the University of Malaya in Malaysia have come to Bharathiar University to wait a workshop on linguistics. “This is the 5th consecutive 12 months when students from Malaysia have come to Bharathiar University for the workshop,” mentioned a university source.

The workshop, which got underway on Thursday, would focal point on subjects corresponding to Tamil linguistics, Tamil phonetics, Tamil morphology, Tamil pedagogy and Tamil computing, mentioned V M Subramanian, head of linguistics division, Bharathiar University. The workshop would conclude on July 30.


“The major aim of the workshop is to train the students in Tamil pedagogy so that once they return to their nation they'd be capable of train Tamil,” Subramanian mentioned. The students belong to Malaysian Tamil lineage, he added.


Linguistics professors from Bharathiar University and mavens from outdoor would interact the periods at the workshop.


This 12 months, the linguistics division has also plans to reveal the students to fields corresponding to archaeology and culture. “We may even take the students to websites of archaeological and cultural importance,” Subramanian mentioned, including, “However, extra focal point will likely be on Tamil computing.”
